What is CST?

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on therapeutic technique that focuses on the craniosacral system—the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Using light touch, CST works to release restrictions and imbalances within the craniosacral system, promoting the body’s natural healing abilities and restoring overall health.

CST is ideal for individuals experiencing a variety of conditions, including migraines, chronic neck and back pain, anxiety, insomnia, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, stress, and trauma. By enhancing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and relieving tension in the body, CST promotes deep relaxation, balances the central nervous system, and supports the body’s self-healing mechanisms.

What Does a Typical CST Session Entail?

During a CST session, the client remains fully clothed and comfortably positioned on a treatment table. The therapist uses a very light touch—typically around the weight of a nickel—on key areas of the body, including the head, neck, spine, and sacrum (the lower back area). This gentle pressure helps to assess the craniosacral rhythm and identify areas where restrictions or tension may be present.

The therapist works to release these restrictions and restore optimal fluid flow, which can alleviate pain and discomfort, promote relaxation, and support overall body function. The therapy is deeply relaxing, and many clients report feeling a sense of calm and peace during the session.

Sessions typically last an hour, and the pressure used is so light that it’s often described as a “feather-light touch” or “melting.” CST is a non-invasive, calming therapy that allows the body to naturally restore balance and healing.

Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy (CST):

Reduces Pain and Tension

CST helps alleviate chronic pain, particularly in the neck, back, and head, by releasing restrictions and tension within the craniosacral system.

Improves Sleep

Helps address insomnia and sleep disturbances by calming the nervous system and promoting deep relaxation.

Relieves Migraines and Headaches

CST can reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines and tension headaches by restoring the balance of cerebrospinal fluid and relieving pressure.

Promotes Emotional Healing

CST can help release emotional trauma stored in the body, offering support for emotional well-being and reducing anxiety and stress.

Enhances the Body’s Natural Healing Processes

Stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself by improving fluid flow and balancing the central nervous system.

Supports Post-Trauma Recovery

Ideal for individuals recovering from physical or emotional trauma, surgery, or injury, CST helps release stored tension and promote healing.

Improves Mobility and Flexibility

By reducing restrictions in the craniosacral system, CST helps restore movement and improve flexibility in the body.

Boosts Overall Health and Wellness

CST enhances the body’s ability to function optimally, supporting physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Craniosacral Therapy is a non-invasive, deeply relaxing treatment that can help address a wide range of conditions, from chronic pain and stress to emotional trauma and sleep issues. With its gentle, light-touch approach, CST encourages the body’s natural healing process and promotes overall balance and wellness
